Description
Meet Hester Cooke, one of the remarkable women in Carrick-on-Suir’s rich literary tradition.
A rector’s daughter, poet and author of Rectory Days, Hester’s writing travelled far beyond Carrick-on-Suir, with her work finding a place in the private libraries of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Nearly two centuries earlier, the same rectory was home to another extraordinary writer, Dorothea Herbert. At the Tides of Time Visitor Centre, discover the contrasting worlds of Carrick-on-Suir through the words of these two women, separated by generations but connected by place and a remarkable literary legacy.
Rectory Days is also available to buy at Tides of Time.
