Carrick-on-Suir Heritage Centre is entering an exciting new chapter since securing significant funding through the EU Just Transition Fund, administered by Fáilte Ireland, for a major new interpretation and visitor experience project.

The initiative, titled Tides of Time, will transform the Heritage Centre into a dynamic cultural and visitor destination at the heart of Carrick-on-Suir, further strengthening the town’s role as a gateway where Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny meet.

Supported by grant funding of €352,647 alongside local match funding, the project will blend storytelling, heritage, technology and community engagement to create a modern, immersive experience rooted in local identity and history.

Planned features include immersive audio-visual displays, oral history recordings, interactive exhibition spaces and a newly designed book and gift retail experience. A flexible literary and community space will also be created to host performances, workshops, cultural events and artist-led programming, ensuring the Heritage Centre continues to evolve as a living space shaped by local voices.

Sustainability and biodiversity will form an important part of the project’s design, aligning with wider regeneration and tourism ambitions for the town and region.

Sarah-Jane Cleary, Commercial and Tourism Manager for Carrick-on-Suir and Project Manager for the initiative, said the project represents a major opportunity for the town.

“This project represents a huge opportunity for Carrick-on-Suir. We want to create a Heritage Centre experience that is welcoming, dynamic, and community-driven, one that honours our town’s past while inspiring future connections. The EU Just Transition Fund and Fáilte Ireland’s support will allow us to build something truly special for both local people and visitors.”

Tony Musiol, Chair of COSTEDC (Carrick-on-Suir Tourism and Economic Development Community), said the project marks an important step forward for the town’s continued regeneration.

“We are delighted that Carrick-on-Suir is among the projects chosen for this important round of EU Just Transition funding. This initiative will play a key role in Carrick’s tourism growth and in deepening local pride. It is an exciting step forward for the town’s regeneration.”

Long-time COSDA members Chairman Niall Walsh and Patsy Fitzgerald also welcomed the announcement, reflecting on the many years of voluntary dedication invested in supporting and developing the Heritage Centre for the benefit of the local community.

The project is scheduled for completion in May 2026 and will be supported by a strong marketing and events strategy aimed at attracting both regional and national audiences, positioning the Heritage Centre as one of the South East’s emerging cultural attractions.
